Reproart Clinic Held a Meeting/Seminar dedicated to PGS & PGD
On May 13, 2013, the ReproART Georgian-American Center for Reproductive Medicine, together with the Georgian Association of Reproductive Medicine and Biology, held a meeting/seminar dedicated to Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) —Transferring One Selected Embryo. The event, with the participation of our colleagues visiting from Armenia and Azerbaijan, was held at the Conference Hall of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, marking the first forum dedicated to this topic in Georgia and the Caucasus in general.
The conference sought to introduce practitioners to the achievements of reproductive genetics, so that they would be able to pick the right strategies for treating patients with complex/difficult medical histories. This is designed to enable infertile couples to achieve pregnancy, a healthy delivery, and have a biological child, parents who, without the method in discussion, have donors as their only chance at pregnancy.
The participants discussed important issue pertaining to reproductive genetics, such as the basics of genetics for practitioners using assisted reproductive technology, an introduction to and the latest achievements of Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), and new Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) technologies and their adoption (Speaker Alan Thornhill -1. Consultant Clinical Research Scientist, Guy’s Hospital, London. 2. Professional Member—Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority. 3. Honorary Reader [Reproductive Genetics] at University of Kent, London, United Kingdom. 4. President – Alpha Scientists in Reproductive Medicine, London, United Kingdom), the principles of genetics consultations for in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)—aneuploidy, translocations, single-gene disorders, and discussions of genetic study results (Speaker Caren Sage, Consultant Genetic Counselor London Women’s Clinic, The London Bridge Fertility Centre, United Kingdom).
The achievements of the ReproART Georgian-American Center for Reproductive Medicine were introduced to the audience by the Center’s Diretor Lika Chkonia.
The successful results after thawing frozen blastocysts (98%) following the vitrification method, ultramodern equipment, and the Center’s team of highly qualified professionals and their American colleagues enable ReproART to introduce novelty technologies in Georgia, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) and Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS).
